Aloo Potala Tarkari(aloo parwal curry) a simple Oriya Dish.

Aloo potala tarkari(potato parwal curry) is an authentic Odisha recipe which i love to have from childhood.My elder sister cook it more better than my mom and me , But she is in Chennai and I am in Gurgaon ,otherwise i would have told her to make it for me.Parwals are one of the best green vegetable available only in summer .

From my childhood i am a die hard fan of this dish and I love it when it is server as dinner with rotis and 1 small.I want to share this recipe with all because i want everyone to enjoy this dish .

Preparation time-40 mins

Ingredients.


4 medium sized potato
8 parwals(potala)
2 big tomatoes-chopped
2 medium sized onions-chopped
Salt to taste
3 tablespoon refined oil
red chili powder-1 teaspoon
turmeric(haldi) powder-1 teaspoon
curry powder-2 teaspoon
some water.



Steps to Prepare


1.Peel the potatoes and parwal(potala) and cut in shape as shown in the below picture.Wash it with flowing water.


2.Hit the gas,take a pan add 1 tablespoon oil into it,when the get hot lower the flame.Add the vegetables into it .


3.Fry till the veggies get tender as well as golden brown..

4.When the vegetables are fried ,keep it aside in a plate.


5.Take another pan,add 2 tablespoon oil,add chopped onions.





6.When the onions become golden brown add chopped tomatoes.


7.When the tomatoes get tender ,add red chili powder,turmeric(haldi) powder,curry powder,salt into it.


8.Fry for 5-7 mins in low flame.When the masala is ready add the fried vegetables.




9.Mix it properly and fry for 5 mins.


10.Add some water into it.



11.let the gravy boil and when the gravy becomes thick remove the dish from fire.The dish is now ready to eat.




Best Served with Roti.

  2. Made this Aloo parval with with slight variation along with my home made garam masala and it came out excellent. yummyyy..This is probably the best aloo parval I have ever made.
    (I added small teaspoon of brown sugar and ginger garlic paste)

    im also oriya....undoubtdly,aloon potal tarkari is a purely oriya dish..but i think if our authentic onion,garlicn ginger paste would be added it will increase the taste..with a bit of garam masala at the end...(coriander leaves)optional.n nowadays if u want to reduce oil then boli the aloo n potal n then fry it for 2 mins in 1 tsp oil.
